Norris reveals near-miss under pressure from Russell

The McLaren driver managed to hold off a late charge from the Mercedes of George Russell during the Singapore Grand Prix.

Lando Norris revealed a scary moment in the final laps fending off George Russell, who crashed out of the Singapore Grand Prix on the last tour. The Mercedes driver was chasing down Lando Norris and winner Carlos Sainz in the closing stages, having pitted during an earlier Virtual Safety Car. The tyre advantage enabled Mercedes to produce a late charge for the win with Russell and Lewis Hamilton, with the pair lapping severeal seconds quicker than the leaders. On the final lap, Russell drifted out wide and clipped the wall at Turn 10, causing him to crash out and throw away his third place. Norris reveals he also had a tense moment as he kept him at bay: "I hit the wall on the same lap in the same place, so I think he copied me and just didn't even work. "So I feel for him, he fought a tough race. He was the quickest today."

Norris: DRS helped keep Russell behind

Norris was able to use the DRS from Sainz to keep Russell behind on the straights, utilising the same 'train effect' that often prevents drivers from overtaking in the zones. "It helped me [DRS] a bit in the last couple corners, so I could chill for just a little bit more," said Norris. "Good points for the whole team as well with Oscar [Piastri] there. "But everyone, Carlos, Charles [Leclerc], Lewis, and George, we all push each other the whole way. It was stressful but it paid off."
