Lando Norris has asserted he would mirror Lewis Hamilton's switch to Ferrari if he was in the same position as the seven-time champion.

Hamilton announced his decision to depart Mercedes at the end of the 2024 campaign one year ago and join Ferrari in a multi-year deal.

The 40-year-old has struggled for form across the last three years with Mercedes slipping down the pecking order amid its struggles with the current set of technical regulations.

Norris has voiced his excitement to race Hamilton on track once again this year as McLaren and Ferrari aim to continue their title-fighting pace from 2024.

“When I'm on track, it doesn't make a difference,” Norris told This Morning when asked what it will be like seeing Hamilton in the colour red this year.

“He’s a competitor and he's a guy I want to beat. It's the same when you're on track with anyone.

“There are always guys you give extra meters to and there are guys you know you can race well - Lewis is one of those guys.

“I‘m excited to race against him more this year. It's always an honour to race against someone like him

“I want to prove myself. He obviously wants to prove himself. He will continue to do [so] and fight until he stops in F1.”

While Norris is placing his primary focus on achieving his maiden F1 title this year, he too recognises the significance of Hamilton's switch to Ferrari and asserted he would do the same if he were in his shoes.

“It's a cool story for him to go to Ferrari after everything he's achieved, I think it's a cool step,” Norris added.

“A lot of people said ‘maybe it's not the right thing to do’ and so forth. But I would probably do the same if I was in his position.

“It looks cool, it’s an amazing story for him. I know he's going to want to go there with a fresh mindset and show everyone that he's still the Lewis Hamilton he showed for many, many years prior.”
