Monger tests positive for COVID-19 as Channel 4 coverage affected

Channel 4's F1 pundit Billy Monger has tested positive for COVID-19, meaning other members of their broadcasting team have had to self-isolate.

Channel 4 commentator and pundit Billy Monger has tested positive for COVID-19, and has had to step back from broadcasting duties for Formula 1 and W Series this weekend as a result. The positive result has meant that commentator Alex Jacques and presenter Steve Jones have also had to go into isolation in Austria and will not participate in the weekend's coverage. Ben Edwards will stand in for Jacques as lead commentator, working from the UK, while David Coulthard will remain in Austria as the co-commentator. “Whisper can confirm that a member its production team has tested positive for Covid-19 since arriving in Austria ahead of the Formula One event and W Series event this weekend," said a statement from Channel 4's broadcast partner Whisper, as quoted by Motorsport Broadcasting. “Whisper produces the W Series Host Broadcast and highlights of F1 for Channel 4. As a result, some of the Whisper production team are now isolating, in line with FIA protocol until further notice.”

Since arriving out here in Austria 🇦🇹 I’ve unfortunately tested positive for COVID. Gutted not to be joining the C4 team for the W-series & F1 coverage this weekend. Currently resting up & hoping to be fighting fit again soon! 💪🏼 Thanks for all the msgs, appreciate the support 💙 pic.twitter.com/VUZ200AYjf — billywhizz (@BillyMonger) June 25, 2021
