Mercedes trail the rest of the grid as Alpine top important statistical category

Although Mercedes topped the timing sheet with Valtteri Bottas on Saturday, his single lap time doesn't explain the whole story of testing so far. The German outfit trail the rest of the grid when it comes to total laps completed so far.

After a troublesome Friday, Mercedes will be more comfortable with how Saturday went in Bahrain as Valtteri Bottas put the reigning champions atop the timing sheet. Perhaps more of a relief for the Silver Arrows was the fact that the team completed 114 laps on Saturday, a notable increase from the 48 laps the Finn and Lewis Hamilton combined for on Friday. However when looking at where Mercedes stand compared to the rest of the grid, the total was only good enough for eighth on the day, with McLaren and Aston Martin completing fewer. Haas topped the list with 162 laps with AlphaTauri and Williams rounding out the top three. Fernando Alonso completed all 128 laps for Alpine on Saturday, with the Spaniard completing one less lap than Ferrari. In terms of the total laps completed over the course of the last two days, Alpine sit first with 257 while Red Bull and Alfa Romeo complete the podium with one lap less. AlphaTauri, Haas and Ferrari are also in good shape having completed more than 245 laps, but there is a drop off after that to Williams in seventh. If you look all the way at the bottom, you see that Mercedes have completed the fewest laps so far with just 162, with Aston Martin struggling as well at just 177 laps.
