Mercedes Technical Director James Allison has highlighted an important goal for the team heading into the second half of the season. The team managed to turn around their fortunes a few races into the 2023 season, after their update package in Monaco enabled them to get back to finishing on podiums. While the team has yet to win a race since the Brazilian Grand Prix last year, they have shown signs of improving on their P3 in the Constructors' Championship. The team is locked into a battle with Aston Martin, while Lewis Hamilton also looks set to prevent Red Bull from securing a one-two in the Drivers' Championship.
Allison: P2 really matters to us
"At the start of the year we were fourth quickest, looking at our customers who were beating us, and that was frustrating. Ferrari were beating us too," said Allison. "Little by little we are gradually putting them behind us. Everything is playing a part in it. "From strategy to engineering, reliability, manufacturing and the drivers who are metronomic in their ability to turn half-opportunities into points. "Although it falls short of our initial aims, securing P2 nevertheless really matters for all of us. Especially in the second half of the season when the tone will be shifting to the W15."
