McLaren unveil final special livery before series exit

McLaren has released the one-off livery it will run at the season-ending London E-Prix, its final weekend racing in Formula E.

McLaren Formula E team has pulled back the curtain on a one-off livery, which will adorn its cars over the London E-Prix weekend.

Rounds 15 and 16 of the 2024-25 campaign will be the papaya squad's final rounds before exiting the all-electric championship at the end of the season.

The special look was unveiled at McLaren Racing Live in London, a two-day fan experience in Trafalgar Square.

Developed with Oxagon, the "reimagined industrial city" of title sponsor NEOM, the design is being referred to as the team's blue "away kit".

The race suits and helmets of drivers Sam Bird and Taylor Barnard will also feature the changed look.

"This special edition livery offers a fresh take on our existing design — a purposeful 'alternate' livery that shines a light on Oxagon, one of NEOM’s key regions," said McLaren Formula E team principal and managing director Ian James.

"It represents more than bold visuals; it symbolises a partnership rooted in innovation, collaboration and real-world industrial transformation."

Having taken over the Mercedes entry at the start of the 2022-23 season, McLaren is walking away from the series as it nears its entry into the Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) from 2027 onwards.

Barnard currently sits fourth in the drivers' standings on 94 points with four rounds to go, whilst Bird has endured a more difficult season and is down in 16th with 33. McLaren is fourth in the teams' championship.

Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, added: "Our work with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team demonstrates how cross-industry partnerships can accelerate sustainable transformation.

"By combining McLaren’s performance and efficiency with Oxagon’s vision for clean, connected manufacturing, we’re advancing the kind of innovation that is shaping the future of industry."
