McLaren fire ‘greedy’ title warning to F1 rivals

McLaren sealed its first constructors' championship in 26 years this season - but it wants to go one better in 2025.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has stated his team is feeling “greedy” ahead of the 2025 F1 title battle. The Woking-based squad prevailed in the fight for the constructors' championship last weekend, topping the standings for the first time in 26 years. It fended off a threat from Ferrari in Abu Dhabi, while Red Bull was out of the equation in the teams' standings ahead of the final round. However, Max Verstappen managed to seal his fourth consecutive title for Red Bull this year. As it enters the 2025 campaign on a high, Brown signalled his intent to take home both of the F1 titles next year. “You want the clean sweep,” Brown told Sky F1 . “Why not be greedy and go ‘I want the drivers’ one too, and the constructors!’ “That’s the goal going into next year. Lando [Norris] had eight poles, which is unbelievable. “Oscar [Piastri] had a fantastic season, so I think we have two drivers that can compete for the championship. “I’m sure the men and women here will give them another race car that is capable of winning races and fighting for the championship.”

Brown highlights momentum for 2025 F1 fight

Verstappen built an advantage in the drivers' championship following a strong opening phase to the season. The Dutchman won seven out of the opening 10 races before Red Bull slipped back in the pecking order and its rivals won more consistently. Brown stated McLaren is likely to begin next year's championship on the front foot and be better equipped to challenge for the drivers' title.  “If the season started from Miami, it would have been that much closer,” he stated. “The great news is our season is just going to roll on from Abu Dhabi. We have a tremendous amount of momentum. I have a lot of confidence in the racing team. “We’ll do a little bit more celebrating this week and then it’s full steam ahead for 2025.”
