McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has stated that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri competing for the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans "down the road" will "definitely be an option."

The Woking-based squad is entering the hypercar class in WEC (World Endurance Championship) from 2027, in place of its Formula E programme, which it forwent at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Whilst Norris and Piastri are locked in a tight intra-team battle for their maiden F1 drivers' titles, with 31 points separating the pair in the championship standings with eight rounds remaining, Brown is not opposed to cross-pollination between McLaren's series in the future.

Speaking on broadcast to ELMS (European Le Mans Series) TV at the 4 hours of Silverstone, the American not only accidentally announced that WEC would be returning to the British circuit, but he also provided an update on how his driver hunt was coming along - and how the papaya outfit will manage its line-ups.

"[We want] experience for sure, youth and experience," the 53-year-old said. "We have a couple of drivers signed that we obviously haven’t announced yet, and we are close on the others.

"I think we are going to go with a formula of two drivers in each car and then bring in a third for Le Mans and Qatar, and maybe reserve.

"In watching and speaking with the drivers for some of these shorter races, the majority of them, we think a two-driver line-up is the way to go.

"Obviously, that’s not the case at Le Mans, you have to have three, Qatar is 10 hours, but at the other races you could see us with a two-driver line-up [in each car]."

Earlier in the year, at the WEC round in Qatar, Brown revealed he had spoken to Norris and Piastri about the possibility of them trying their hand at endurance racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, sharing that both were keen.

When this was again queried with the McLaren boss, he replied: "I've talked to them [Norris and Piastri] about it... Down the road, it will definitely be an option."

The American has also recently disclosed his interest in teaming up with Red Bull driver and F1 rival Max Verstappen in the future.
