Mazepin's old F2 team join Haas in cutting Uralkali ties

Nikita Mazepin raced in both Formula 2 and Formula 3 on his way to F1.

Formula 2 team Hitech GP have confirmed that they have terminated their partnership with sponsor Uralkali. Hitech have been sponsored by the Russian potash fertiliser producer and exporter since 2016, the year in which Nikita Mazepin landed a drive with the team at F3 level. Uralkali at one stage owned a share in the team, alongside two other companies, but, on 15 February, the team's founder, Oliver Oakes, seized control of all shares and thus regained complete ownership of the F2 outfit. The decision was taken prior to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with Oakes telling RacingNews365.com : "It was always part of the strategic plan for Bergton Management to exit Hitech in early 2022 and myself to own Hitech fully."

Hitech statement on Uralkali

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, Hitech GP said they have "elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the sponsorship agreement of Uralkali. "As with the rest of the motorsport community, the team are shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wish for a swift and peaceful end to the ongoing conflict." Hitech have signed Red Bull-backed Juri Vips and former Ferrari junior Marcus Armstrong for the 2022 F2 season.
