Max Verstappen is just 47 races away from breaking a huge Lewis Hamilton record, but it depends entirely on him racing for Red Bull in 2027.

The Hungarian Grand Prix represented the four-time world champion's 200th race for Red Bull, with Hamilton holding the record for most races completed for one team.

Hamilton raced in 246 grands prix for Mercedes, meaning Verstappen must remain with Red Bull for the 2027 F1 season to eclipse the record.

Verstappen is comfortably second on the list for most races with one team, and will reach 210 grands prix for Red Bull come the end of the campaign.

In Hungary, the Dutchman also committed to the Milton Keynes-based outfit for next season, which should secure Verstappen another 24 races for Red Bull, unless he is forced to miss a grand prix.

That would put the 27-year-old on 234 races for Red Bull come the end of 2026, leaving him 12 short of matching Hamilton and 13 short of beating the 40-year-old.

As a result, the record can only be broken by the reigning world champion if he continues with Red Bull into 2027, in what would be the second campaign of the new power unit regulations.

Verstappen has been backed to possibly leave Red Bull for 2027 should it struggle in the first season of the new regulations next year, with several big teams set to have a seat available.

Aston Martin currently has two seats available for 2027, whilst Ferrari and Mercedes could also have a spot open.

Behind Hamilton and Verstappen on the list of most races for one team is seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who completed 180 races for Ferrari.
