Mattia Binotto The latest Formula 1 news about Mattia Binotto

Swiss-born Italian engineer Mattia Binotto was named Ferrari’s team principal ahead of the 2019 season, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene who had previously led the Scuderia’s engineering efforts since the beginning of the turbo hybrid era in 2014.

Binotto joined Ferrari after graduating university in 1995 as a team member in the engine department conducting testing, a role which he continued to hold until the early 2000s when the engineer moved up to the race team, working alongside the multiple title-winning team of Ross Brawn in the pitlane and Michael Schumacher in the drivers’ seat.

He became a race engine engineer in 2004 and then went on to become chief engineer, race and assembly in 2007. The Italian was named as Ferrari’s head of engine and KERS operations in F1 in 2009.

In 2013, the engineer was promoted to head of the engine department before being named as James Allison’s replacement as chief technical officer in 2016.
