Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko has delivered a scathing assessment of Sergio Perez's Monaco Grand Prix qualifying crash. The Mexican hit the barrier on the exit of Sainte Devote having seemingly been distracted by an Alpine on the inside of the first corner. Perez missed his braking point and the hefty collision left extensive damage to the left-hand side of his RB19, with Team Principal Christian Horner concerned a chassis change could be needed. The incident leaves Perez last on the grid for Sunday's race, leaving a dent to his title hopes. "If you have a car like that, you shouldn’t be out in Q1," Marko told Sky Deutschland . "That was a stupid mistake on his part. Maybe he was thinking too much about the championship.”
Verstappen perfection
Max Verstappen ensured Red Bull would bookend the grid with a stunning pole effort to deny Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso. The Dutchman was two-tenths down before entering La Piscine but put in a mesmerising performance through the complex to pull back the deficit and take his first Monaco pole. “After Max was already two-tenths behind Alonso on his last lap, we thought it wouldn’t work out," explained Marko. "But the third sector is our strength. Max was absolutely on the limit, perfect and got the maximum out of the car."
