Red Bull set to reveal their second driver soon

Red Bull's Helmut Marko has said that there are some backup names in the mix if Red Bull Racing or AlphaTauri decide to look elsewhere for drivers in 2022.

It's almost crunch time for driver decisions at Red Bull, with the company set to make the call on what to do regarding their driver line-ups for Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri. While Max Verstappen will continue with Red Bull Racing, there's been no decisions made yet on what to do regarding his teammate or either cockpit at AlphaTauri. Sergio Perez signed a one-year deal with Red Bull, while Pierre Gasly has a chance of returning to the top team, and Yuki Tsunoda's future looks shaky after a tough first half of his rookie season. "We'll list everything, but probably sometime in the first two races after the summer break we will announce the drivers for next season, both at Red Bull and for AlphaTauri," Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko told Motorsport-Magazin. "There are some other options, but our preference is to continue with the four drivers from now." Marko's comments would suggest an unchanged line-up at both teams, given that a switch of Perez and Gasly is unlikely due to Perez's considerable experience and lack of connection to the Red Bull junior programme. But Marko has also said that there are options outside of the Red Bull stable. A possibility could be Nico Hulkenberg, or even making a swoop for Valtteri Bottas as the Finn remains without a contract at Mercedes for 2022. Marko hinted that he's not referring to George Russell, saying that he 'is convinced' the British driver is off to Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton's teammate: "His qualifications are impressive, but he is a Mercedes man and that is a done deal. "We have some options outside of Red Bull, but I won't name names."
