Magnussen challenges Haas to revive F1 fortunes

The Danish driver is set to stay on for a seventh season with the team in 2024 alongside Nico Hulkenberg.

Kevin Magnussen has challenged Haas to bounce back from its "stalled" F1 development next term. The American-owned team has confirmed Magnussen will be retained for his seventh season with the team next term, with teammate Nico Hulkenberg also staying after an impressive return to full-time Grand Prix racing. Magnussen has only managed to score two points across the first 12 races of the campaign as Haas has struggled with tyre degradation in races but the one-time podium finisher remains committed to turning the team's fortunes around - and believes everything is already in place to do so. "[The midfield] is so tight that I think every team feels like they can [make a step forwards in 2024]," the Dane explained to media including RacingNews365. "We have seen some teams make very big progress this year and we haven't done that. "We've kind of stalled in our development with the car, but as a team, we are in a place I don't think it has been before. "It is a very healthy team right now, we are just under-delivering on the car and but there are all the ingredients that we need to make that step forward. "I think we can do that, probably even this year, but certainly into next year, that should be a good chance [for us]."

Magnussen's Haas hope

With the news that Magnussen will be kept on, it means he would have raced for the team since 2017, with the exception of 2021 when he left the grid. He claimed the team's sole pole position at the São Paulo Grand Prix and added: "Seven seasons sounds like a lot, but it doesn't feel like that many. "I'm very happy to continue and we have a job to do right now, and it'd be really fulfilling to see the progress into next year that we are working on right now. "I know this team very well. It is my home in Formula 1, and it is great to have another year. "It is always very simple with [Gene Haas and Guenther Steiner], and this time there were not any long negotiations."
