For the third time in 2024, Formula 1 is hosting a sprint weekend, with the Austrian Grand Prix the venue.
Max Verstappen has won both previous sprints this season in China and Miami, with the field for Saturday morning's race being set by the sprint shootout.
The session follows usual grand prix qualifying - but features shorter segments of 12-10-8 minutes as opposed to the 18-15-12 of normal qualifying.
Tyre use is also mandated in the shootout with mediums in Q1 and Q2 before softs are permitted in Q3. All tyres must be brand-new.
