Liam Lawson has highlighted the “short memories” that exist in F1 as he waits to hear his plans for the 2026 season.

Lawson has endured a mixed campaign, starting with a disappointing opening two rounds with Red Bull that resulted in his demotion back to Racing Bulls.

However, the New Zealander has since enjoyed an uptick in form, scoring points four times at the last eight rounds - including a career-best fifth place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

This weekend's round in the USA kicks off a double-header event, with Mexico hosting the following race in just over one week's time.

When asked about the importance of the double-header to convince Red Bull he deserves a 2026 seat, Lawson told media including RacingNews365: “It’s as important as any other weekend, honestly.

“The sport moves very fast. As much as you have good race weekends, I think people in F1 have very short memories.

“It’s about trying to keep that consistency across the board.

“They [the next two weekends] are important, but so is every weekend in F1.”

Red Bull has previously indicated it will decide its driver line-up before the season is finished, a contrast to its situation last year.

With just six rounds remaining, the decision is looming for Red Bull. As he seeks to save his seat, Lawson asserted that all he can do is bring home strong results.

“It’s something that I don't make the decision on,” he said. “I'll find out more when the decision is closer to being made.

“Right now, I think the task is very simple for all of us. It's to perform. So that's just what I'm focused on.”
