Liam Lawson has revealed advice he has received from Daniel Ricciardo ahead of his first Canadian Grand Prix.

Lawson is racing at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the first time this weekend, having only ever competed in the second half of F1 seasons an injury stand-in and then replacement for Ricciardo in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Ricciardo is a winner in Montreal, taking a stunning upset win in 2014 to scoop his maiden grand prix victory after a late pass on the ailing Nico Rosberg.

He qualified fifth last year for what would be his final Canadian GP, and has imparted some words of wisdom to Lawson.

"It is good to know that the car was fast here last year, but at the same time, we often look at last year's results, and to be honest, they don't repeat themselves a lot of the time," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365.

"So, tracks that maybe we haven't been strong at, we've actually been strong at this year and vice versa.

"It looks like a fun track, and I actually spoke to Daniel last week about this track, and he loved it.

"[He told me] to use lots of kerb, that was probably the main thing, it is a bit unique compared to most of the tracks we drive on.

"It can be quite bumpy, and obviously there are a lot of kerbs around, so it is something we all enjoy.

"It is a track which creates racing, and having double DRS zones always creates that with big braking zones, and the weather as well.

"It looks alright at the moment, but in the past, it has changed very quickly, so we have to be on top of it."
