Lewis Hamilton has pointed to Charles Leclerc's crash in Canada when comparing it to his own costly spin on Friday at Spa-Francorchamps.
Hamilton endured a difficult opening day in Belgium with a spin in sprint qualifying ensuring he started from towards rear of the field.
Lining up in 18th place, Hamilton made a handful of overtakes during the shorter race and crossed the line in 15th.
Hamilton is running a new rear suspension in Belgium and highlighted the race offered a chance to discover more about the component.
“The positives are I didn't spin, and I did move forward,” Hamilton said, reflecting on the race.
“But it was a really tough race. We were all in the DRS train, which was unfortunate.
“Definitely lots to learn a lot about the upgrades that we have.”
However, any chance of a positive result in the race was undone with his spin at the end of SQ1 on Friday.
The seven-time champion drew similarities to his team-mate's shunt in Montreal as he asserted the car needs to be fine-tuned to become more comfortable to drive.
“I was just reflecting - part of the upgrade Charles had since Montreal, you saw the crash that he had there was kind of similar to something that I had yesterday,” Hamilton added.
“It's just about fine-tuning it. Yesterday was the first time running it for me, and I think now it's just about fine-tuning that we can make some changes between now and quali.
“My actual pace in quali was actually pretty good. Not so much, I would say, in the race.
“But track position is obviously important here, so I hope today for a better result.”
