Leclerc gives update on Ferrari future

His contract is up for renewal at the end of the 2024 season, with speculation growing that he could move elsewhere if Ferrari's form does not improve.

Charles Leclerc has given an update on the negotiations regarding his future at Ferrari in Formula 1. The Monégasque's contract is up for renewal with the team at the end of next season but there is speculation that he could look elsewhere due to the continued lack of success at the Scuderia. Leclerc had started last term as a comfortable championship leader before reliability failures and operational issues allowed Red Bull and Max Verstappen to easily overhaul his early-season margin. The Maranello-based outfit has slipped to fourth in the Constructors' standings this year, although form began to pick up before the summer break to provide optimism. Addressing his future with the team, Leclerc told Motorsport Italy : “I've always loved Ferrari, and it's always been my dream to be where I am today. "It is clear that no one within the team is happy with the situation we are in, but here I feel at home. I can't add much because there hasn't been a negotiation yet, apart from a few jokes." When asked why the contract talks have taken a long time, Leclerc responded: "We've had other priorities. "We're just focusing on what's really important, which is getting back to competitive as quickly as possible."

Leclerc eyes Le Mans drive

Leclerc attended the Le Mans 24 Hours earlier this year, where Ferrari took its first outright victory in 70 years on its return to the top category of endurance racing. This led to rumours that Leclerc could contest the race, which he confirmed is open to doing in the future. "I've thought about it many times, and it's something I'll definitely want to do one day," he said. "Together with Arthur [Leclerc, his brother] and Antonio [Fuoco] one of my best friends, we grew up together and he's already training for that day. "We will see when it is possible, we will have to combine all our plans because we compete in different categories, but that day will come.”
