Liam Lawson has detailed the praise he received from Red Bull following his drive to ninth place at the US Grand Prix.

The New Zealander made his F1 return last weekend with RB, replacing Daniel Ricciardo for the final rounds of the current campaign.

Lawson impressed during his five-race stint at the team last year before being sidelined with the promise of a future seat.

Amid his promotion back to the grid, Lawson has been linked with a further step up to the front-running Red Bull squad in place of the struggling Sergio Perez for 2025.

Lawson made a quick impression in Austin with his effort to score points, drawing immediate praise from Red Bull.

“I spoke to both Christian [Horner] and Helmut [Marko],” Lawson told Sky F1. “They were positive, they said ‘well done’.

“But at the same time, that was the expectation they had on me.”

Lawson wary of Red Bull expectation

Lawson's two points have helped RB stay in touch with Haas in the standings, with the latter also enjoying a strong weekend in the US.

As it looks to reclaim sixth place in the constructors' championship, Lawson outlined he is expected to bring home points at each of the remaining rounds.

“The goal every weekend is points,” he stated. “I know that they have an expectation on me, but I have an expectation on myself as well to do a job.

“I want to stay in F1 next year and these races are my key to doing that. From my side, I’m taking it weekend by weekend.

“This weekend was strong, we need to now focus on Mexico. I’m aware of the expectation they have on me, but at the end of the day, it’s been the same since I was 16 years old as a junior.

“They’ve always put pressure on us so realistically it’s no different than that.”
