Yuki Tsunoda

Late Tsunoda crash sets up sprint for Hungary pole

The Japanese racer crashed approaching the chicane in Q3.

Yuki Tsunoda caused the second red flag of Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying with a big accident to set up a sprint for pole position.

With just 2:13 remaining on the clock, Tsunoda ran wide exiting Turn 6 and got onto the astroturf in the slick conditions, making firm contact with the concrete wall.

It destroyed the left-hand-side of the RB machine, with Lando Norris sitting on provisional pole ahead of Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen.

As there was enough time remaining on the clock to complete an out-lap and start a flying lap, race director Niels Wittich confirmed intentions to restart the session, with Piastri and Norris at the end of the pit-lane awaiting the restart.
