Lando Norris has been announced as one of six nominees for the 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, following his F1 title triumph over Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
The prestigious UK award was founded in 1954 and has been won twice in the past by Lewis Hamilton, Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell.
Other F1 drivers to have won the award include Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss, with Norris looking to become the sixth driver to win it.
Voting will take place during the awards ceremony, which is scheduled for Thursday, 18 December.
The six nominees were announced on Thursday morning, with Norris being joined by darts player Luke Littler, golfer Rory McIlroy, England footballers Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kemp, and rugby union player Ellie Kildunne.
McIlroy is currently the bookies’ favourite to collect the award, although Norris is close behind in second.
It is Norris’ first time being nominated for the award and comes after he secured a maiden F1 drivers’ title in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Norris finished the season finale in third to defeat Max Verstappen by just two points, having already confirmed that he will take the #1 for his title defence in 2026.
Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said: "This has been a breathtaking year for sport, driven by athletes whose performances belong in the history books.
"Each one has delivered moments of pure brilliance that have defined 2025.
"It's been incredible to watch, and I can't wait to honour their achievements, and to see who the nation chooses as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2025."
