Lando Norris handed Max Verstappen example in stern F1 title warning

Former F1 driver Martin Brundle has warned Lando Norris must deliver a boost to his consistency if he wishes to become a world champion.

Brundle used four-time champion Max Verstappen as an example for Norris to aspire to following a difficult weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Norris was chasing team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for fourth place in the latter stages of the race in Montreal.

As he looked to make a move on the inside towards Turn 1, Norris made contact with the rear of Piastri's car and was eliminated from the grand prix.

Now sitting 22 points down on Piastri, Norris has been told he can't afford more mistakes akin to the one in Canada in his bid to become an F1 champion.

“Lando won’t win a world championship unless he can stop these weekends happening,” Brundle told Sky F1

“It’s as simple as that. He’s got to bring his A-game pretty much all the time, like Max [Verstappen] does.

“Oscar’s much more solid in his delivery week in, week out, much more consistent.”

Despite the setback in Canada, Brundle has not ruled out Norris in the title fight with over half of the campaign still yet to play out.

“I find it really confusing, those two different levels of performance,” Brundle added.

“He needs to park one and deliver the other one more often, but there’s a long way to go.

“It doesn’t mean he’s out of the championship at all.

“But when you look at the turnaround in points from the advantage he came away from Melbourne with, to what he’s got now, it’s a 45-point swing in that time.”
