Lando Norris believes "1%" errors were key to him "paying the price" after qualifying down in seventh on the Canadian Grand Prix grid.
On his first flying lap in Q3, Norris out-braked himself into the final corner, and although he was able to recharge the batteries, the tyres were not at their best on the second lap.
For his final run, Norris failed to improve his position after hitting the wall exiting Turn 7, meaning he will start four places behind team-mate Oscar Piastri, who leads the standings by 10 points.
After earlier qualifying failures in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Norris has lost big points to Piastri, and felt minuscule misjudgements were at the heart of his Canadian failure.
"Yeah, it was just a couple of big mistakes," Norris told media, including RacingNews365.
"One was hitting the wall on the last lap in the exit of Turn 7, and the first lap was in the final corner, so it was just two mistakes that cost me, I guess.
"We've clearly not been as quick as normal, and that's just the layout of the track and the car, but we are performing relatively well, and I was happy through qualifying.
"We didn't maybe have the car to take pole, but it was good enough to be up there in the top three.
"It is a very easy track just to push 1% too much. You then pay the price, and that's what I did."
