Lance Stroll has outqualified Fernando Alonso in a grand prix grid-setting session for the first time since the 2024 British Grand Prix.
The Canadian driver outperformed his Aston Martin team-mate under the searing sun of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya by just over half a tenth of a second, with the pair due to line up their AMR26s on the last row of the grid for tomorrow's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
It was heartbreak for the home hero and his adoring fans, with the streak ending at 42 consecutive qualifying sessions from the round at Silverstone two years ago.
Alarmingly for the Lawrence Stroll-owned team, the pair were a second off the pace of the Cadillacs, who will start P19 and P20, respectively.
The three-time podium finisher did beat the Spanish driver in qualifying for the sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2025.
It had looked like the two-time F1 drivers' champion would push the streak to 43 not out, but he could not improve on his final run whilst Stroll found six-tenths of a second.
