Jürgen Klopp feels Max Verstappen will be able to teach him a trick or two after agreeing to meet the four-time F1 champion for talks.
After eight-and-a-half years as manager of Liverpool, Klopp stepped down in May 2024 to take a break from football. Later last year, it was announced he would be taking up a newly created role at Red Bull as its global head of soccer.
Klopp has now officially started work, and whilst he remit will naturally focus on football, Red Bull's multi-sports universe will allow him the opportunity to engage with many of the brand's athletes.
On the list will be Verstappen, who captured his fourth successive F1 drivers' championship last year, and is widely regarded as the best driver of the current era.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has hailed Klopp as "an extraordinary coach and a great motivator", and that he would like him "to be involved with the drivers" as "his experience and leadership could be decisive".
Klopp has earned a reputation as one of football's most inspiring managers after his spells with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, winning the Premier League title with the latter for the first time in 30 years in 2020.
It seems Klopp, though, will also learn from Verstappen.
"There are so many things to talk about. Not just how focused he is, but all kinds of things," said Klopp in his first press conference since taking on his new role. "It's really crazy.
"I would love to spend time with him to understand how he can do that under the threat of 300 miles an hour in a car and still be in his absolute best mindset. Super interesting."
