Former F1 driver Christian Klien believes that Red Bull will do all they can to out-develop Mercedes in order to come out on top in the battle for the 2021 F1 championship. The Silver Arrows have been the team to beat in the turbo-hybrid era, but Red Bull have shown that they have what it takes to end that dominance this year. Max Verstappen currently trails Lewis Hamilton by eight points in the Drivers' Championship, while Red Bull are only 12 points back in the Constructors' Championship. Klien reckons Red Bull can now make a push for the top prize, and that his former team will continue to develop their car to make that happen. "The battle between Red Bull and Mercedes is pretty even," Klien told Speedweek.com. "Red Bull are on an equal footing but they will do more to win this world title than Mercedes. "Red Bull have been behind Mercedes for years, [so] you can't and don't want to miss this opportunity." Verstappen's performances this season have seen him take another step forward and become a championship contender, which is why Klien expects the Dutchman to recover quickly from recent setbacks. "He is a real fighter that believes in himself," Klien added. "These are characteristics that will help him get over the setbacks and look forward. "I am sure that he will return even more motivated after the summer break."
