The threat of a wet Japanese Grand Prix has intensified, with heavy rain set to hit Suzuka hours before the third race of the season on Sunday.
Should the Japanese GP be rain-hit, it would mark the second race this season to be run in mixed conditions following the curtain-raising Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne's Albert Park three weeks ago.
The forecast has changed dramatically over the past 24 hours. Rain was initially forecast for Sunday morning before clearing ahead of the race.
However, the latest FIA weather prediction shows an 80 per cent chance of light rain during the morning, before a 60 per cent chance of heavy showers from noon.
There is also a growing chance of moderate rain when the lights go out to signal the start of the race, giving the teams a headache ahead of their cars entering parc fermé on Saturday following qualifying.
The wind is also due to pick up around the start of the grand prix, which could make track conditions more precarious.
As for third practice and qualifying, the forecast is for dry conditions, with cool air and track temperatures.
