IndyCar unveil 'phase one' of 2027 race schedule

IndyCar has announced the first eight rounds of its 2027 calendar.

IndyCar have confirmed the first eight rounds of the 2027 season, with the championship set to begin with three races across three consecutive weekends for a second straight year.

The 'Phase One' announcement covers the opening stretch of next year's calendar, running from the season opener at St. Petersburg on 7 March through to the Streets of Detroit on 6 June, with the 111th Indianapolis 500 among the headline fixtures.

St. Petersburg will host the season opener for the 17th time, before the series heads to Phoenix Raceway for a joint weekend with NASCAR the following Saturday.

The sprint then concludes at the Streets of Arlington, where the sold-out inaugural race earlier this year was won by Kyle Kirkwood after he beat Álex Palou by just 0.314 seconds.

Penske Entertainment Corp. President and CEO Mark Miles said: "2026 has been proof of concept that our sport is fueled by an expanding presence across marquee events and destinations, and we look forward to carrying that momentum into 2027."

The schedule builds towards another Month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, beginning with the Sonsio Grand Prix on the road course before qualifying weekend and the Indy 500 itself on 30 May.

Last year's race produced 70 lead changes and the closest finish in race history, with Felix Rosenqvist edging David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds.

Phase two of the 2027 calendar, covering the remainder of the season, is expected in the coming weeks.
