Robert Shwartzman's Indianapolis 500 ended in disaster as the Prema driver crashed in the pit lane, taking out some mechanics in the process.
Shwartzman dropped through the field after starting from pole position, becoming the first rookie since 1983 to start from the head of the pack.
However, midway through the race, Shwartzman lost control of his car as he made a pit stop and struck a handful of mechanics.
While there did not appear to be any major concerns with the well-being of the mechanics, one member of the team was seen sitting upright on a stretcher.
Shwartzman was not the only driver who had drama in the pit lane as Takuma Sato, who was in the net race lead, went long in his box and lost crucial time.
Moments prior to Shwartzman's mistake, Rinus VeeKay suffered a high-speed spin into the pit lane - but thankfully lost all momentum before reaching the mechanics.
