It was recently confirmed the Monaco F1 race could undergo a major change this year in a bid to spice up the racing spectacle.

Christian Horner believes the proposed changes to the Monaco Grand Prix will introduce a fresh dynamic to the race.

Monaco's race has long been described as boring and uninteresting due to its narrow layout.

The current cars are longer and wider than ever before, making overtaking around Monaco near impossible.

However, in a bid to increase the show, the F1 Commission agreed on a plan to introduce two mandatory pit stops, as opposed to the one that is required at every other event.

As it opens the possibility for differing strategies to be utilised, Horner highlighted it is clear nothing will change with the current format.

“The circuit is not going to change, the cars have got bigger and bigger,” the Red Bull boss told media including RacingNews365.

“Saturday determines everything and I think last year highlighted that if you do have a stoppage, and you can do your change your tyres at that stoppage, it's the end of race. It's a procession.

Although the plan is yet to be officially ratified, Horner stated it would be a step in the right direction.

“By introducing two stops, it at least adds another dynamic,” he said.

“You're going to have to run all three compounds of tyre, and then if it rains, you still have to do two stops.

“It’s a little artificial, but it does add another dynamic and another possibility for Monaco to move away from a very stagnant, boring race that it can often be.”
