Christian Horner has explained Red Bull's logic for bringing Daniel Ricciardo back to the Milton Keynes team. Red Bull have announced the return of the eight-time Grand Prix winner as 'third driver' for next season. The Australian took seven Grands Prix victories during his time at Red Bull, which lasted from 2014 to 2018, before his stints at Renault and McLaren. A difficult season at McLaren meant he was left without a drive for next season, with Mercedes and Red Bull both becoming interested in taking the 33-year-old as reserve driver.
Horner praises Ricciardo's 'brilliant character'
With Ricciardo opting for a return to Red Bull, Team Principal Christian Horner commented that he was hoping the team could lean on his "experience and knowledge". “It is great to bring Daniel back into the Red Bull family," commented Horner. "He has enormous talent and such a brilliant character; I know the whole factory is excited to be welcoming him home. "In his role as test and third driver, Daniel will give us the chance to diversify, assisting in the development of the car, aiding the Team with his experience and knowledge of what it takes to succeed in F1. "We’re very pleased to be working with Daniel again and look forward to everything he will bring to the Team in 2023.”
