Lewis Hamilton was gracious in defeat after the Brazilian Grand Prix, but gave a less-than-impressed response on his battle with Max Verstappen. The Mercedes driver was unable to capitalise on a late Safety Car and overcome his teammate George Russell, who took the Brazilian GP victory. Hamilton's race was hampered by an early-race collision with Red Bull's Verstappen, with the pair coming together after a Safety Car restart at Turn 2. Speaking immediately after the race, Hamilton was congratulatory towards Russell, who achieved a first F1 win. "Well, firstly, I've got to say a huge congratulations to George. What an amazing drive he did today," Hamilton commented to media. "He did amazing qualifying yesterday, so he truly deserves it. To my team, I'm so proud of everyone back to the factory. This is an incredible result. "We've worked so hard through this year to get a one-two, and to get a win, and so this is hugely, hugely deserved from everybody, so a big, big thank you." Hamilton continued to provide a pointed commented towards his 2021 championship rival, Max Verstappen, who received a five-second penalty for their clash during the Brazilian Grand Prix: "What can I say? You know how it is with Max."
