Hamilton singles out Norris after Silverstone battle

The British duo fought over second and third at the British Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has again levelled praise at McLaren driver Lando Norris after their British Grand Prix Formula 1 tussle. Seven-time F1 World Champion Hamilton was provided the opportunity to attack his fellow Briton in the closing stages at Silverstone after a Safety Car was deployed to recover Kevin Magnussen's stricken Haas. Despite the Mercedes driver opting for a Soft tyre for the final stint in comparison to Norris' Hard tyre, the latter was able to hold off Hamilton on three consecutive laps whilst bringing his tyres up to temperature, securing second behind Max Verstappen's Red Bull. The performance disparity between Mercedes and McLaren in recent years has prevented regular combat between the two drivers, though the Austrian and Russian Grands Prix battles in 2021 saw Hamilton hail Norris' racecraft.

What motor racing is all about

Again offering praise to Norris, Hamilton told media including RacingNews365.com : "He is very talented naturally and it is great when you can have close battles like that and rely on the driver that you're competing with to be fair - hard but fair. "So there was never an element or a moment where we thought we were going to come together or anything like that. "That's what motor racing is all about, as he wanted to hold onto second, I wanted to get that second but it wasn't meant to be. "So we just get our heads down and keep pushing and, hopefully, we'll have some more battles moving forward."
