Pierre Gasly has weighed in on Sergio Perez's ongoing struggles at the Red Bull F1 team.

The Mexican driver has endured a difficult stretch of races, scoring just 15 points across the last six grands prix.

His future at the energy drink-backed outfit has been called into question and RacingNews365 understands he is in danger of being dropped from his drive if his performances do not improve.

Gasly, who spent half a season at Red Bull in 2019 before being demoted, believes his situation is different to the one Perez is facing.

“First of all, I think my situation was very different than Checo’s situation,” Gasly told media including RacingNews365. “But I think right now, he is under big pressure.

“I don’t really know what to say to be fair. He is a good driver, everybody knows it but he doesn’t seem to get his things together, whether it’s himself or coming from the team.

“I don’t know and can’t really comment on that. But not a good year for him.”

Gasly asserts 'something missing' between Red Bull and Perez

McLaren, which has closed the gap to Red Bull in recent weeks, is eyeing a constructors' championship opportunity amid Perez's weak form.

As Perez looks to rediscover that form, Gasly highlighted the disconnect that currently exists between the 34-year-old and the Red Bull team.

“Ultimately, his problem at the moment is he doesn’t feel the car,” Gasly stated.

“Whenever you feel strong with a car you have, for whatever reason, a weekend off, next weekend, you come back, you feel good, you put the strong laps in and you don’t even think about it.

“But he just doesn’t seem to be able to get the performance out of it, whether it’s coming from him or the team, I don’t know.

“But there’s clearly something that is missing at the moment between the two.”
