Gasly teases iconic helmet for Imola F1 round

F1 will return to Imola next weekend for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, 30 years on from Ayrton Senna's fatal crash at the location.

Pierre Gasly has revealed he will run a helmet inspired by Ayrton Senna at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix next weekend. Having missed out on hosting an F1 race last year due to flooding in the area, Imola will return to the F1 schedule this weekend. The event takes place 30 years on from three-time world champion Senna's fatal accident at the venue. Having been presented with a chance to drive Senna's first-ever F1 car around Silverstone, Gasly declared he will use a unique helmet design at the Imola round, which mirrors that used by Senna throughout his F1 career. “I’m going to pay tribute to one of the best F1 drivers of all time in Imola [and] one of my idols,” Gasly wrote on social media.  “I’ll be wearing a special Senna helmet design to remember Ayrton’s legacy. “He was a huge inspiration since my first days karting and I had the chance and privilege to drive his first ever F1 car (a Toleman 1984) in Silverstone couple days ago.” Gasly also revealed the helmet will be put up for auction with the money raised going towards the Ayrton Senna Institute in Brazil.
