Franco Colapinto is set to test an Alpine at Circuit Zandvoort, home of the Dutch Grand Prix, on Wednesday.

RacingNews365 understands the Argentine, who is test and reserve driver for Team Enstone, will be getting track running as part of the French squad's TPC (testing of previous cars) programme.

This comes amid heavy speculation the 21-year-old is due to replace the embattled Jack Doohan, who is just seven rounds into his F1 career.

It is believed Alpine has already made the decision for Colapinto to step into the A525 for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix alongside Pierre Gasly.

Last weekend, in Miami, Doohan out-qualified his team-mate for the first time, but has endured a difficult start to the season.

Whilst the Australian has been able to showcase his underlying pace, he has suffered numerous crashes, including his high-profile shunt in practice for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Alpine was in action at Zandvoort on Tuesday, just two days after the round in Florida, but it is uncertain as to who was in the cockpit for the team.

The test days have long been planned, but it is not unclear whether Colapinto was previously scheduled to be participating.

The former Williams driver has already gained experience behind the wheel of an Alpine, having taken part in a test alongside Paul Aron, who is also one of the team's reserves, at Monza.

All TPC cars are at least two years old.
