Formula E has cancelled the first session of the 2026 season ahead of this weekend's São Paulo E-Prix, due to consistent technical issues.
First practice in São Paulo was due to start at 16:30 local time (19:30 GMT); however, following a 75-minute delay, it was announced that it would be cancelled.
A short shakedown session took place as scheduled earlier Friday evening, before issues resulted in the cancellation of first practice.
It was confirmed by a Formula E spokesperson that the cancellation was due to "technical difficulties with radio communications", with a solution having not been discovered in time.
The longer the delay went on the cooler the conditions became at the Sambódromo do Anhembi, costing the teams and drivers crucial data gathering on a weekend where hot temperatures on race day are expected to create potential battery-related issues.
As things stand, second practice is scheduled for 07:30 local time Saturday morning, before qualifying takes place at 09:40 and the race at 14:00.
