Formula E announce incredible record-breaking growth

Formula E has continued to grow at a rapid rate in all areas across the globe.

Formula E has revealed significant data from its recently completed season, with the championship having experienced record-breaking growth of its global TV audience.

In its tenth campaign, the all-electric championship's TV audience grew by a staggering 35% to 491 million.

The Monaco E-Prix also drew in the biggest global TV audience in FE history for a single race, as 40 million people watched the action as Mitch Evans claimed victory. In fact, six races in Season 10 outperformed the most-watched race in 2023.

It was a very successful FE season for some specific countries, with the United States, Japan, Mexico and Spain having all experienced its highest-ever TV audience for an FE event.

FE's global fanbase also continues to be the fastest-growing in motorsport, with it having grown by 23%, putting it now at 386 million fans worldwide.

Interestingly, 118 million of those followers are from China, which continues to be a booming market for EV technology. The series returned to China earlier this year, with the successful Shanghai E-Prix.

That is not the only area of growth, with its social following having seen a 20% rise, taking its social impressions across all platforms to over one billion.

It was a successful season for the sport across its various video platforms and app, where a 147% growth in views was achieved.

Formula E booming

With the introduction next campaign – Season 11 starts in São Paulo on December 7 – of the phenomenal Gen3 EVO, more comparisons are being made to F1.

This is not only because FE's global audience is getting closer to F1's or the fact some similar venues are being used, it is also because FE's technology is overtaking F1's in certain areas.

One area is in acceleration, with the Gen3 EVO being capable of reaching 0-60 mph in just 1.82s – 30% faster than a current F1 car. An FE powertrain's efficiency is also significantly better than an F1 internal combustion engine.

Fans believe FE is more exciting than ever before, with 39% compared to 21% believing the series is also more innovative than F1.

The plucky all-electric series is growing consistently year-on-year, with the 2024/25 season set to be even bigger for FE, with a record-breaking 17-round campaign across 11 cities.

“I’m delighted to reveal these impressive results which demonstrate the continued growth of our fanbase worldwide, as well as increases in our global TV audiences and social media following," said Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds.

"We continue to be bold in our ambitions, and this data shows our commitment to exciting racing and innovation, cementing our position as the fastest-growing motorsport in the world against a backdrop of esteemed and more established series.

“We are still incredibly ambitious and are already planning an even bigger and more exciting year for Season 11, which starts in just a few months.

"Thanks to our loyal and growing fanbase, our partners and broadcasters, we will continue pushing the boundaries as the noisiest, quietest motorsport championship in the world.

"It’ll also be our fastest yet, as we launch our GEN3 Evo car, capable of 0-100km/h in 1.82 seconds, which promises even more entertaining racing across our 11-event season.”

The data presented by FE is sourced from from Kantar Sport (for TV viewership metrics), Conviva/Hookit (for social media analytics), and Google Analytics (for website/app usage).
