Ford has etched itself into the Nordschleife record books following a recent run with the Ford GT Mk IV car.
There are various records surrounding the famous German track that can be broken, and a new achievement has been put into the books by Ford.
The Ford GT Mk IV, with Belgian driver Frédéric Vervisch behind the wheel, covered the more than 20-kilometre circuit in Germany's Eifel region in 6:15.977. As a result, it is the fastest lap set by a road production car.
The American auto giant beat the previous record by some distance, which was a 6:29.090, set by a Mercedes-AMG One.
Ford's record also came in less than ideal conditions, as it was cold at the Nurburgring, which meant its top speed had to be reduced to 310 km/h.
In addition, the GT Mk IV now also holds the lap record for cars running entirely on an internal combustion engine. This record had been held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey-Kit with a time of 6:38.835.
The third record broken by the Ford car is that of the fastest American-made car. This record was held by Corvette, which braved Green Hell in a time of 6:49.275.
The absolute lap record still stands in the name of Porsche, which clocked the staggering lap time of 5:19.546 with the 919 Hybrid EVO, driven by Timo Bernhard.
