Flames find their way into NASCAR cockpit at season opener

Ty Gibbs' car became engulfed in flames during a NASCAR Cup Series practice session, with the rookie driver escaping unhurt.

A scary fire erupted in the Ty Gibbs' Toyota during practice for the opening NASCAR Cup Series event of the year.

In a bid to reduce the chances of fires caused by the build of rubber on the exhausts, a change to the exhaust layout was introduced for all car in 2023.

According to commentators, the #54 car, belonging to reigning XFinity Series champion Ty Gibbs, appeared to suffer from the same issue during practice for the Busch Light Clash in Los Angeles.

However, it later emerged that the issue was suspected to be a leak in the exhaust, which triggered a fire to a nearby panel.
