The FIA has removed F2 race director Janette Tan from her position, placing new F1 race director Rui Marques back in charge of the support series, according to reports.
Marques was promoted from F2 and F3 director to replace Niels Wittich after he was removed from post after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, to the surprise of many, including the drivers, as Wittich claimed he had been sacked.
The F2 season is set to resume in Qatar with the title to be decided at Lusail and in Abu Dhabi next weekend between Isack Hadjar and 2025 Stake driver Gabriel Bortoleto, with Marques assuming control of the series following Tan's removal before she had even ran her first F2 event, given the previous round was in Azerbaijan in September.
Tan had served as Marques' deputy, and the reasons for her removal remain unclear.
Marques will now be assuming control of F1 on a sprint weekend - his first in charge - and qualifying and the two races for F2.
He was also on duty for the Macau Grand Prix the weekend prior to Las Vegas.
The news of Tan's removal comes after long-time F1 steward Tim Mayer also left his role as an unpaid volunteer.
