Ferrari has released an update after Carlos Sainz underwent appendicitis surgery in Saudi Arabia.
After missing media day after feeling unwell, Sainz drove in both Thursday practice sessions, but his condition worsened overnight and was diagnosed with appendicitis.
The Spaniard had surgery at a local hospital and will be replaced by Oliver Bearman for the weekend alongside Charles Leclerc - with Bearman finishing 10th fastest in his first outing in the 2024 car in FP3.
Releasing an update on Sainz's situation, a Ferrari spokesperson told RacingNews365 that Sainz was now in recovery.
"Carlos is out of surgery, everything went well and he is now resting at the hospital," said a statement.
"We send him our full support for a quick recovery."
