Fernando Alonso shows off extremely rare 10-million-dollar Mercedes

Fernando Alonso is the proud owner of a very, very special and beautiful Mercedes. It is the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans road racer, the CLK GTR.

Fernando Alonso is evidently doing rather well for himself financially, news that should come as no surprise.

In recent months, the two-time F1 world champion has regularly appeared on social media alongside a rotating cast of high-end machinery from his personal car collection.

Only recently, Alonso took delivery of an Aston Martin DBX S. With a price tag of around £210,000, it would be considered a luxury purchase for most — yet within Alonso’s garage, it barely registers when compared to some of the other cars bearing his name.

Take, for instance, the Aston Martin Valiant, a car valued at approximately $2.5 million. Even that, however, may have been eclipsed.

The Spaniard now appears to have added an authentic Mercedes CLK GTR to his collection — a machine that occupies near-mythical status in motorsport and road-car history.

The Mercedes CLK GTR is no ordinary supercar. Developed in the late 1990s as a homologation special, it is directly derived from Mercedes’ Le Mans–winning endurance racer.

Only a handful were ever built, making it one of the rarest road-going performance cars in existence. Today, examples of the CLK GTR regularly change hands for sums in excess of $10 million.

That the car belongs to Alonso appears to be confirmed by the registration plate: '1414'.

The number is a clear nod to Alonso’s iconic race number 14, visible in a short clip circulating online (below), where the Aston Martin driver can be seen behind the wheel.
