Alex Dunne has been disqualified from the Formula 2 feature race at the Spielberg round.

The Irishman ended the race in second place, crossing the line behind Richard Verschoor who took over the championship lead.

However, Dunne's deficit has now taken a further blow as a technical infringement has seen him thrown out of the results.

Following the race, it was found his front plank thickness did not comply with the minimum thickness outlined in the regulations.

“In the hearing the team acknowledged that the measurement performed by the FIA Technical team was correct,” read a statement from the stewards.

“The team explained that the front plank on Car 17 was new at the commencement of the competition.

“This was acknowledged by the Technical Delegate. The team said that they had measured the extent of wear on the front plank after the sprint race and it was nominal.

“They raised the height of the car before the feature race to allow for the additional fuel load.

“The team could not offer any explanation as to why the thickness of the plank assembly when measured as prescribed in the technical regulations was below the minimum permitted thickness of 4mm at two of the three positions.”
