2023 F2 champion Theo Pourchaire will race in Formula E next season for new team Opel, at the start of the all-electric series' Gen4 era.
The Frenchman has struggled to pin down a full-time single-seater drive since triumphing in Formula 2 three years ago, but this move brings him in from the relative wilderness.
And whilst an incoming rookie in Formula E, he does have considerable experience with the championship.
Pourchaire was previously in contention for a seat with Nissan for the 2022-23 campaign, and has taken part in several rookie tests — with both Maserati and Citroen.
Formula E's 2026/27 season is scheduled to kick off in Saudi Arabia with the Jeddah E-Prix in December.
Once considered one of the most promising talents of his generation and a shoo-in for an F1 seat, the former Sauber Academy driver missed out on reaching the pinnacle of motorsport, with Zhou Guanyu preferred alongside Valtteri Bottas at Alfa Romeo at the time.
After a drive in the Japanese series Super Formula for 2024 fell through, Pourchaire raced six times in IndyCar for Arrow McLaren. However, that proved to be another false dawn.
Initially a stand-in for the injured David Malakus, his strong performances earned him the drive for the remainder of the campaign, only to be suddenly fired in place of Nolan Siegel.
An injury to Alexander Rossi later in the campaign saw the 22-year-old again step in before leaving the IndyCar paddock for good.
Pourchaire spent 2025 racing in LMP2 of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for Algarve Pro Racing, including at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
He dovetailed that role with being the test and development driver for Peugeot in HyperCar, which yielded one start before stepping up to the French team full-time this year.
Pourchaire also took on a Mercedes F1 development driver role at the start of 2026.
