The F1 Commission has agreed a plan to introduce the number of mandatory pit stops that are carried out at the Monaco Grand Prix this year. In a dry race under normal circumstances, all teams are required to make at least one pit stop and run two different tyre compounds. The Monaco Grand Prix has traditionally been an easy race for drivers to manage tyres due to the low-speed nature of the track. With overtaking extremely difficult around the narrow Circuit de Monaco, the race has often been a procession with very little racing action taking place. The problem has become steadily more challenging with the cars becoming wider and longer in recent years. However, at a recent F1 Commission meeting, which involves the FIA and the teams, a plan was put in place to increase the number of pit stops that take place during the race. It has been created in the hope of boosting the viewing spectacle of the Monaco race. “With the aim of promoting better racing at the Monaco Grand Prix, the commission discussed proposals for Monaco-specific regulations,” read a statement. “The commission agreed to increase the number of mandatory pit stops in the race. “These proposals will be further discussed by the Sporting Advisory Committee in the coming weeks.“ The finer details of the plan are not yet known with further inquiries set to be made by the sporting experts within each team, after which a vote to finalise the plans will take place.
