Jackie Stewart has expressed his "surprise" at Lewis Hamilton's big-money move to Ferrari.
The seven-time champion stunned F1 in early 2024 by announcing that he was off to the Scuderia after 12 seasons and six world titles at Mercedes.
Hamilton has since completed his first running for Ferrari at Fiorano and in Barcelona, and will unveil his new machine for the first time on February 19th when the new Ferrari breaks cover, the day after the F1 75 event at London's O2.
Observing Hamilton's move to Italy, three-time F1 champion Stewart expressed his surprise at the decision - a move Stewart himself came close to making but never did before his 1973 retirement.
"He's more experienced than he was last year, and he knows the business very well," Stewart told Sky Sports.
"Ferrari is the biggest name in the world, and if you went to a Maasai warrior in Africa and said: 'do you know anything about Ferrari?', they would know the name Ferrari.
"So for Lewis, I was surprised he was going there, but I nearly went to Ferrari and chose not to do it in the end, but in that time the old man was a tough cookie.
"Going to Ferrari is very colourful, very exciting and usually very successful, so I wouldn't count him out, put it that way."
