The 2025 Miami Grand Prix is set to be hit by thunderstorms,  potentially causing disruption to the sixth round of the F1 season.

The F1 Academy support race on Sunday afternoon was cancelled after a heavy downpour, with the weather set to get increasingly worse.

As of 14:00 local time in Miami (19:00 UK), the weather appears to have eased slightly, but as the afternoon progresses to the 16:00 local time start (21:00 UK), thunderstorm cells will move across the city from the east, coming in from the Gulf of Mexico.

Current forecasts indicate a severe thunderstorm cell over the Miami track at the scheduled start time for the race, with the FIA going as far as issuing rare guidance as to what happens in case of a lightning strike.

The track could set dry quickly as was evidenced during the Sprint race, which was delayed due to heavy rain.

However, the drivers were all able to switch to slicks for the final laps.
