Max Verstappen is the new F1 World Champion after he snatched victory and the title away from Lewis Hamilton at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton cleared Verstappen at the start and controlled the majority of the race but a late Safety Car turned the encounter on its head. Hamilton stayed out on old Hard tyres, while Verstappen pitted for fresh Softs, effectively setting up a one-lap shootout.

Verstappen duly made the most of his fresh rubber to pass Hamilton and take the chequered flag for his maiden world title. Behind the title contenders, Carlos Sainz completed the podium for Ferrari.
